An 18-year-old man suspected of fatally stabbing another man earlier this month was taken into custody Thursday.
Landon Sandoval was identified by homicide detectives as the suspect after an extensive investigation into the murder of 22-year-old Arnoldo Andre Garcia Mendoza, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Sandoval’s city of residence was not disclosed.
Sandoval was located and arrested Thursday in the 1400 block of Parade Street and later booked on suspicion of murder, with bail set at $2 million, police said.
A possible motive behind the fatal stabbing remains under investigation, and the case is expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for official filing consideration.
Officers responded around 8:30 p.m. on June 1 to the 1800 block of Harbor Avenue regarding a report of a stabbing, but the suspect fled before officers arrived.
According to police, the responding officers located Mendoza with a life-threatening stab wound and began rendering aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics. Mendoza was then taken to a hospital, where he later died.
