A three-alarm fire at a large senior-living apartment complex injured three people, displaced more than a dozen others and damaged 16 apartments, causing an estimated $450,000 in losses, authorities said Wednesday.

The blaze inside the building at 1741 N. Community Dr. was reported at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

“The fire started in an upstairs apartment and that apartment is a total loss,” Wyatt said. “The flames then spread to a large hallway, and the other seven apartments that line that hallway suffered heavy smoke and heat damage.”

The eight downstairs apartments also sustained smoke and heat damage, he added.

“Three people were hurt in the fire,” Wyatt said. “One suffered burns and two suffered smoke inhalation. They were transported to a hospital but their injuries were not life-threatening.”

The fire displaced between 16 and 32 people from the 16 apartments, Wyatt said, adding the exact number was not immediately determined. The American Red Cross has responded to the scene to assist residents with emergency housing.

Sixty firefighters were dispatched to the scene by the Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton and Orange fire departments and the Orange County Fire Authority, Wyatt said, adding they knocked down the blaze in about 20 minutes.

The blaze caused around $400,000 in structural damage and an estimated $50,000 in content damage, he said. Fire investigators were at the scene Wednesday to determine what sparked the blaze, he added.
