Los Angeles County health officials extended a rain advisory for all county beaches through 10 a.m. Wednesday after rain fell across the region on Halloween.
The county Department of Public Health advised beachgoers to avoid contact with ocean water because of possible contamination, especially near storm drains, creeks and rivers. The warning also applies to runoff that flows or pools on beach sand.
Rain can carry bacteria, chemicals, debris and trash from streets and mountain areas into ocean and bay waters, potentially making people sick, health officials said.
Rain advisories remain in effect for 72 hours after rainfall ends, officials said. The advisory could be extended again if more rain falls.
Recorded beach conditions are available around the clock at the county’s beach closure hotline, 800-525-5662. More information and a map of affected locations are available at PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach.
