The discovery of human remains at a trash processing facility in the unincorporated community of Bassett is being treated as a homicide, authorities said Tuesday.
The remains were found on a conveyor belt by an employee of Athens Services, a trash removal company in the 14000 block of Valley Boulevard, and reported around 8:35 p.m. Monday, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Crystal Hernandez.
Hernandez said an initial report that the victim was female was based on an early examination of the remains. The victim is now regarded as an unknown person whose identification, gender and cause of death will be determined by the coroner, she said.
