An 18-year-old woman in Costa Mesa was critically injured Saturday when she was struck by a Jeep while her husband was asking her back into their car during an argument.

The driver of the vehicle that hit her, a 40-year-old man from Huntington Beach, stayed at the location of the injury in the area of Pomona Avenue and Victoria Street and was later released from the scene. He was not cited, said Costa Mesa Police Lt. Victor Bakkila.

The woman was walking from the northwest corner of Pomona and Victoria when she was struck a little after 3 a.m. by a gray Jeep going westbound at about 40 mph, Bakkila said.

Paramedics rushed the woman, suffering from major head trauma, to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana in critical condition, he said.
