Actor-director Edward James Olmos is featured in a get-out-the vote campaign launched Monday that urges Spanish-speaking voters to go to the polls this November.

The campaign, which is being promoted by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, was created through a partnership between AIGA, a professional organization representing graphic designers, and the nonprofit groups NALEO Education Fund, Mi Familia Vota and the League of Women Voters.

Olmos, best known for his roles in the movies “American Me” and “Stand and Deliver,” stars in a public service announcement in which he says, “Este Ano tu Voto es Cosa Seria,” which translates to “This Year, Your Vote is a Serious Matter.”

The television spot will appear on Channel 34 Univision L.A. (KMEX), Telemundo 52 Los Angeles (KVEA) and Azteca 54.

“Our democracy is at its best when all citizens have their voices heard on Election Day,” Garcetti said. “The results of this election will have real consequences in the daily lives of millions of Angelenos — and we can’t afford for anyone to sit this one out.”

Starting in September, posters will also appear at bus shelters and benches promoting NALEO’s hotline, (888) 839-8682, and the Mi Familia Vota website, at http://www.mifamiliavota.org , as sources of voter registration information.
