Police asked for the public’s help Tuesday in tracking down the gunman who fired a shot at another man at a South Los Angeles bus stop, but wound up killing a woman who was waiting for a bus.

Dianey Santos, 39, was shot around 9:30 p.m. June 17 at the bus stop near South Broadway and West 83rd Street in the Florence area.

Police said two men at the stop got into an argument and one of them pulled out a gun and fired a shot. The bullet missed the intended target, but struck Santos in the head.

Santos was taken to a hospital, where she died three days later.

She had two daughters, aged 9 and 15, who are now being cared for by godparents.

“She was a single mother to me and my little sister,” the teenage girl, Emily Santos, said. “She was a nice person. She never did nothing to anybody.”

The city is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the killer. Anyone with information was asked to call police at (323) 786-5113.
