A 54-year-old motorist from Orange was killed when his car was hit in a three-vehicle crash on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway in Westminster.
Felipe Nunez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
The crash was on the eastbound 22 Freeway, east of Beach Boulevard, at about 2:40 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported.
A 28-year-old man was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer entered the freeway from Beach Boulevard and lost control of his SUV, spinning out of control from the number five lane in a northerly direction into traffic lanes.
The Ford Explorer hit Nunez’s 2006 Toyota Corolla, which caused the car to slam into a 1997 Nissan Quest.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a resident of Long Beach, was not arrested. It was not immediately known if he was cited. He suffered minor injuries, as did the motorist in the 1997 Nissan Quest.
