“The pop star released his new single ‘Friends’ today (Aug. 17), which marks his first solo track since 2016’s ‘Company,’ notes Fuse.tv.

“I’m wondering, can we still be friends? / Can we still be friends? / It doesn’t have to end / And if it ends, can we be friends?” Bieber sings.

Fuse.TV says he co-wrote “Friends” with frequent collaborators BloodPop, Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter.”

USA Today says: “Thankfully for fans, ‘Friends’ finally jailbreaks Bieber from the soulless trop-house prison of his other EDM one-offs.”

Billboard says of the lyrics: “Here, the artist wonders if he and his former lover can stay in each other’s lives even though she’s moved on and their romance is no more. There’s no ulterior motives here, he just wants her friendship. They’re lyrics anyone who’s fallen out of a relationship or missing that special someone can relate to.”
