A 21-year-old woman shot in the head while driving last week in Panorama City has died of her injuries, police said Monday.
The shooting, which police said they believed was likely gang-related, was reported at 2:35 a.m. Thursday at 7858 Van Nuys Blvd., between Sherman Way and Roscoe Boulevard, said Sgt. Greg Bruce of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Division.

The victim, Jessica Torres, was driving south on Van Nuys Boulevard, approaching Arminta Street, when someone in another vehicle fired a shot, striking her in the head, Bruce said.
Torres, who was discovered by firefighters coming from another call, crashed into a median, according to reports from the scene. She was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills in critical condition, Bruce said.
Police reported that Torres died from her injuries on Sunday. Her place of residence was not immediately available.
There was no suspect information available, but the area is rife with gang activity, Bruce said.
Anyone with information that could lead investigators to Torres’ killer was urged to call Detective John Doerbecker at (818) 374-1941.
After-hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7.
Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
