A 65-year-old woman was killed, her son was injured and one of two dogs also died after being hit by a car in the Woodbridge area of Irvine, police said Monday.

The crash took place about 10:15 p.m. Sunday in the area of Blue Lake South and Springacre, according to Irvine police.

Angelina Guentcheva and her son were taken to a hospital, where Guentcheva later died, police said.

The victims were walking two dogs when the crash took place, killing one of the animals, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and was not hurt, police reported.
