A man who led police on a chase in an allegedly stolen SUV was fatally shot by police in Reseda Monday, and two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the confrontation.

The shooting occurred about 10:30 a.m. near Hamlin Street and Corbin Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The wounded man, in his 20s, died at the scene. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

The officers were taken to a hospital, where one was treated for a knee injury and the other was treated for scrapes and bruises. Each have been with the LAPD for about three years, Capt. Patricia Sandoval said.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, but it was unclear if the suspect actually fired at the officers, Sandoval said.

The two Topanga Station officers were in a patrol car in the area when they began chasing the suspect in an SUV after receiving a “LoJack hit” that indicated it had been reported stolen, Sandoval said.

They chased the SUV for about seven minutes, and the suspect got out of the SUV and ran off, followed by the officers on foot, Sandoval said.

The shooting occurred about two to five minutes into the foot chase, Sandoval said. It was unclear if both officers fired, Sandoval said.

Traffic was routed away from the area while an investigation was conducted.
