A police pursuit of an SUV ended in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday, with the suspect vehicle crashing into a car behind the Los Angeles Police Department’s old Parker Center.
An officer assigned to the Newton Station started following the SUV about 3:40 p.m., but it was unclear why, said Officer Janet Kim of media relations. She was unable to confirm broadcast reports that it was because the SUV was being driven recklessly.
The chase led into Lincoln Heights and Chinatown before heading into the Civic Center, where the SUV ran a red light and collided with another vehicle on East Aliso Street, Kim said.
The driver, tackled by police when he tried to run from the wreck, is likely to face a charge of felony evading.
Two people in the other car were treated by paramedics, Kim said.
