The California Highway Patrol Thursday was investigating a fiery rollover crash in Palmdale that killed a 25-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child.
The single-vehicle crash was reported at 2:12 a.m. Wednesday on 30th Street West south of Avenue N.
The woman was driving north on West 30th in a 2010 Infiniti when it veered off the road. The front right wheel hit a drainage culvert, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire before it struck a curb and a light pole, according to the CHP.
“The vehicle came to rest in the northeast corner of the intersection, fully engulfed in flames,” a CHP news release stated.
Los Angeles County Firefighters responded, put out the fire and found the victims dead inside.
“Due to the extent of the damage, it is unknown whether seat belts or a child safety seat were utilized,” according to the CHP. “This aspect remains under investigation. The involvement of alcohol and/or drugs as a contributing factor is also under investigation.”
The names of the occupants were withheld pending positive identification by the county medical examiner’s office.
The crash closed a stretch of 30th Street West as crews responded and the CHP investigated.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call the CHP’s Antelope Valley Office at 661-743-6060.
