A man who was killed in a rollover crash on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway in Riverside was identified Sunday.

The crash was called in to the California Highway Patrol at 6:22 p.m. Saturday on the eastbound freeway west of Day Street, where a dark-colored vehicle was reported overturned in the HOV and No. 1 lane.

A witness reported the vehicle was sparking and swerving before the crash. A report also indicated the driver had run over large debris in lanes that damaged the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The man killed was identified as 33-year-old Carlos Montoya of Wildomar.

It was unclear how many people were in the overturned vehicle, but Riverside Animal Control officers were called to take possession of a dog. Riverside County coroner’s personnel were summoned to the scene at 8:10 p.m.

The CHP requested a hard closure for eastbound lanes for the investigation and cleanup.
