One person was killed and three others were hospitalized after a fire broke out at a residence in Alhambra, authorities said Saturday.

The fire was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Friday in the 1800 block of South Curtis Avenue, according to city officials. The location is a couple blocks west of Atlantic Boulevard and north of Interstate 10.

The property contained a front house and a back house, both one-story. Fire units received reports of persons trapped in the front home and two patients with burn injuries who resided in the back house.

“Initial crews arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the structure and multiple victims with burn injuries and one person reported being trapped in the front home. Fire crews arriving on scene immediately transitioned into rescue mode,” officials said.

“There were a total of four adults living in the occupancy involved, two in the front house and two in the back house. Patients were immediately transferred to local hospitals in varying degrees of injuries. One occupant was pronounced dead on scene,” they continued.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
