A U.S. Postal Service delivery vehicle overturned Wednesday in El Cerrito, injuring the mail carrier and scattering items across the roadway.
The crash was reported at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Ontario Avenue, near Piute Creek Drive, a quarter-mile east of Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said the vehicle was traveling at an unconfirmed speed when the driver apparently lost control on the wet road, causing it to tip over. Mail and packages were scattered across lanes, the CHP said.
No other vehicles were involved.
The mail carrier self-extricated, and reportedly suffered unspecified minor injuries but declined transportation to a hospital for treatment.
Good Samaritans assisted in gathering the items in the roadway. The CHP said another USPS carrier vehicle was summoned to retrieve them.
One lane was still blocked on Ontario Avenue as of 11:30 a.m.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
