Longtime nonprofit executive Christina Gordon was chosen Wednesday by the Cathedral City City Council to succeed the late District 3 Councilmember Mark Carnevale.

Gordon was chosen from a field of 11 applicants to serve the remainder of Carnevale’s term, which expires in November. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City.

“Councilmember Gordon’s dedication and experience in nonprofit leadership will serve District 3 residents well,” Mayor Raymond Gregory said in a statement.

Carnevale died Nov. 16. He was elected to the first of three terms in November 2014 and served as mayor twice — from 2019-2020 following the death of Mayor Gregory Pettis and again from 2023-2024.

Carnevale is survived by his wife Rhonda, their two children Karrie and Nick and five grandchildren.
