One person was injured in an apparent shooting on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in Los Angeles Wednesday, and the investigation led to a freeway closure that caused nightmarish afternoon commute.
The shooting was reported at about 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The target vehicle eventually stopped near the intersection of Hoover Street and Adams Boulevard, where firefighters responded and took one person to a hospital, according to the CHP, which responded to the scene along with the Los Angeles Police Department.
A report from that scene showed a dark-colored SUV with what looked like a bullet hole in its windshield.
No further details were immediately available about the victim or that person’s condition.
Authorities said the shooting apparently occurred on the 10 Freeway, although it was unclear exactly where. Around 3 p.m., officials shut down the eastbound 10 Freeway at Crenshaw Boulevard through Arlington Avenue to conduct a search for evidence. The closure prompted an immediate rush-hour jam, with traffic on the freeway backing up clear into Santa Monica, and also leading to a flood of vehicles on side streets.
The freeway was reopened around 4:30 p.m.
