A busted fire-suppression system caused major flooding inside a French Valley home Friday, resulting in extensive damage and displacing the occupants.

The non-injury water emergency was reported at 12:28 p.m. Friday in the 30000 of Mahogany Street, near Briggs Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered water streaming out of the residence, from which the occupants and their pet safely exited.

Firefighters shut off water supplies to the property and determined that a failure linked to the interior fire-suppression sprinkler system in a bedroom was likely to blame, though the investigation was turned over to technicians from the Eastern Municipal Water District, according to officials.

The house was declared uninhabitable pending repairs.

Red Cross personnel were requested to assist the two women, one man and canine residing at the home with finding temporary alternate lodgings.
