The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Hyundai Motor Company announced Monday they are extending their partnership through 2037, unveiling an exhibition series and expanding backing for the museum’s artist-driven research and technology initiative.

The collaboration, which began in 2015 and represents the largest programmatic commitment from a corporate partner in LACMA’s history, has produced eight major exhibitions and supported dozens of artist-driven technology projects over the past decade, museum officials said.

As part of the next phase, LACMA will introduce an exhibition series titled “Hyundai Project,” beginning in 2028. The biennial series will feature artists with strong ties to Los Angeles and the Pan Pacific region, including newly commissioned works and large-scale banners installed on the exterior of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum ahead of each exhibition.

The extended partnership will also expand the Art + Technology Lab, including new grant cycles every two years starting in 2026, a biennial symposium launching in 2027 and a demonstration showcase beginning in 2028 highlighting completed artist projects.

Since its launch, the Art + Technology Lab has supported 45 artist initiatives exploring the intersection of art and emerging technologies, according to LACMA.

“The long-term generative partnership between Hyundai Motor and LACMA has produced meaningful exhibitions, new acquisitions, scholarship, and incredible opportunities for emerging artists and technologists,” Michael Govan, LACMA CEO, said in a statement.

Euisun Chung, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said the partnership with LACMA “was founded upon a shared vision to explore the convergence of art and technology.”

LACMA also announced the release of a new publication marking the first decade of the Art + Technology Lab and opened applications for its 2026 grant cycle, offering awards of up to $50,000 for selected artist projects.
