An 8-year-old gelding has died nearly a week after suffering an injury in a race at Los Alamitos, state horse racing officials reported.

Exhalting was injured in the fifth race on March 7. The official race chart says he “broke thru gate, trailed, eased, (and was) equine ambulanced.”

He died Friday, according to the California Horse Racing Board, which lists the death as “musculoskeletal.” No further details were immediately available.

Foaled in Florida, Exhalting had 28 career races and four first-place finishes. His last 12 races were at Los Alamitos.

He is the third horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Cypress track this year. Los Alamitos had 19 racing and training deaths in 2025, according to CHRB data.
