A brush fire broke out near a freeway interchange in the Elysian Park area Monday morning, scorching about an acre of medium vegetation and trees while shutting down a busy connector and ramps.
The fire was reported about 11:35 a.m. near the Golden State (5) and Glendale (2) freeway interchange — in the 2200 block of West Ripple Street in Elysian Valley, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Water dropping helicopters were dispatched to fight the fire, a department spokeswoman said.
On- and off-ramps and the transition road between the two freeways were temporarily blocked according to the California Highway Patrol.
