A motorcyclist was wounded in a shooting on an interstate in Murrieta Thursday, prompting all lanes to be shut down for hours as officers investigated.
The shooting was reported about 12:35 a.m. Thursday on the southbound side of the 215 freeway north of Clinton Keith Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 34-year-old rider, a Murrieta resident, was on a gray 2001 motorcycle and was shot in a leg, according to the CHP.
“The male was able to stop his motorcycle on the shoulder and go to a local business for help” before being taken to a hospital, the CHP stated in a news release.
An update on the rider’s condition was not immediately available.
Southbound lanes of Interstate 215 were closed between Clinton Keith and Scott roads until about 7:40 a.m., but the southbound Clinton Keith Road off-ramp remained closed as the investigation continued, the CHP reported.
Descriptions of the suspect driver and the vehicle were not immediately made available.
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to contacted the CHP’s Temecula Area office at 951-466-4300.
