A 56-year-old man who was reported missing after riding an all-terrain vehicle near Valle Vista was found dead in the area, authorities said Tuesday.
Carlos McCowan of Winchester was reported missing shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday at Indian Creek Road, west of Idyllwild, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said McCowan was riding a 2014 Honda TRX450R alongside his 28-year-old son who was riding a dirt bike, but was reported missing after McCowan did not return to his truck at the end of the day. A helicopter, CHP officers and deputies were requested to assist in locating him.
McCowan was found “hunched over the quad” with his helmet on and equipped with road safety clothing, with no damage to the quad and no “obvious crash injuries,” the CHP said.
The cause of his death was under investigation by the Riverside County coroner’s office.
