A man was taken into custody in Long Beach Wednesday after leading officers on a 50-minute vehicle pursuit on freeways and surface streets, authorities said.
The pursuit of the vehicle, which was reported stolen by Gardena Police Department officers, began on the eastbound Gardena (91) Freeway around 1:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos said.
At various points, the pursuit headed north and south on the Long Beach (710) Freeway and east and west on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway. It also went over the Santa Ana (5) San Gabriel Valley (605) freeways as well as El Monte surface streets, Villalobos said.
The pursued vehicle, described by a news videographer at the scene as an early model Honda Accord, reached speeds of 75-85 miles per hour, Villalobos said.
The driver was apprehended around 2:05 a.m. in Long Beach on Dovey Drive, between the Long Beach Towne Center shopping mall and El Dorado Park. His identity and the charges he faces were not immediately available, Villalobos said.
