The family of a missing 19-year-old UC Berkeley student offered a $100,000 reward Monday for information that helps located the missing athlete.
Eloi Vasquez, a Berkeley resident and student, was last seen about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at a fraternity house in the 600 block of West 28th Street, attending a party near USC with some friends, said Los Angeles police officer Norma Eisenman of the Media Relations Section.
“Eloi is a wonderful young man who has excelled both academically and athletically here at Cal,” Cal Athletics said in a news statement. “Our entire Cal Athletics family is very concerned for Eloi’s safety and our first priority is to help in any way we can to locate him.”
Vasquez told his friends that wanted to take a walk, left the frat party and did not return. Friends were unable to make contact with him the following morning, Eisenman said.
His mother, Wendy Margolan, drove to L.A. today to talk to police and distribute fliers about her missing son.
“It’s very out of the ordinary, he’s a top athlete, a soccer player at Cal,” she told ABC7. “He’s very responsible, it’s very unusual. That’s why we drove all the way here.”
Vasquez was described as a 6-foot tall Latino man weighing around 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white T- shirt, gray pants and white tennis shoes, the police spokeswoman said.
His mother said the boy does not have any money or ID on him.
Police asked anyone with information regarding Vasquez’s whereabouts was asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department Southwest station’s watch commander at (213) 486-8582.
