Police Saturday are searching for the driver who bailed out of a Maserati after crashing it into a California Highway Patrol car during a chase in North Hollywood.

While the driver got away — for now — the passenger was taken into custody.

The short pursuit began at 8:27 p.m. Friday on the Hollywood (170) Freeway at Magnolia Boulevard, said CHP Officer Alex Rubio.

The driver was wanted for speeding, he said.

The chase ended when the Maserati crashed into a patrol car but Rubio did not have a location for where it occurred. A TV station reported the crash occurred in the area of Vose Street and St. Claire Avenue.

After the crash, a passenger exited and ran before being taken into custody and the driver continued down the street and parked the Maserati before fleeing.

Information about injuries was not immediately available.
