Authorities are investigating a pair of shootings in South Los Angeles that left one person dead and six others wounded.

The shootings were reported within 10 minutes of each other, the first at 10:40 p.m. Friday in the area of 89th Street and Broadway and the second in the area of 89th Street and Vermont Avenue.

At the Broadway location, four people were shot and wounded by a gunman who was traveling in a gray vehicle, according to Sgt. Tim Jones of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Division.

One of the victims died at the scene and the surviving victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, Jones said.

The fatal shooting victim was later identified as Duane Osteen, 30, of Glendale, Arizona, said Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner’s office.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s South Los Angeles Station were handling the other shooting on Vermont Avenue where three people suffered non life-threatening gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The two agencies were working to determine whether the shootings were related. Jones said it was not immediately known if the shooting on Broadway was gang-related but said it is a gang area.
