A Norwalk man was killed on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Baldwin Park Friday when a car hit him after he got out of a car involved in a collision with another vehicle, authorities said.

Officers and paramedics were sent to the eastbound freeway near Francisquito Avenue about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 25-year-old man died at the scene.

His name was withheld, pending notification of kin.

The man was riding in a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by James Truly, 28, of Fontana, when the Chevrolet was involved in a crash with a Volkswagen Passat, according to the highway patrol.

The Chevrolet became disabled in the No. 1 lane, and when the Norwalk man got out of the car, he was hit by a Toyota Prius driven by Daniel Martinez, 18, of Ontario, the CHP said.

Martinez, who was not arrested, was treated at a hospital for a minor injury.

After hitting the Norwalk man, the Toyota Prius collided with a Toyota Camry, the CHP said. No other injuries were reported.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed until about 4:35 a.m., when carpool and No. 1 lanes were reopened. The remaining lanes were reopened about 7 a.m., the CHP reported.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the CHP Baldwin Park Area office at 626-338-1164.
