The Long Beach Police Department’s South Patrol Division will temporarily deploy from the West Patrol Division’s substation while a five-level, parking garage is constructed at the Public Safety Building, officials announced Tuesday.
The move will be effective Saturday and will likely last 18 to 24 months while the garage is built at the Public Safety Building in the 400 block of West Broadway, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The South Patrol Division normally deploys out of the Public Safety Building.
“The South and West Patrol divisions will continue to operate independently from one another, staffing and service in both divisions will not be affected,” the police department reported.
“South Patrol Division officers will deploy from the West Patrol Division substation at the beginning of each shift and will continue to patrol their assigned beats in the downtown area as normal.”
The West Patrol Division substation is located in the 1800 block of Santa Fe Avenue.
The parking garage that will be built at the Public Safety Building was approved by the Long Beach City Council in early 2019, according to police.
