A woman was hospitalized and expected to survive Monday after being shot in a Mission Viejo domestic dispute by a man who was taken into custody.
The pair’s exact relationship was not immediately provided by authorities.
The domestic dispute was reported about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in San Clemente and within 10 minutes deputies were notified that a pickup truck matching the description of the vehicle that fled the scene was being driven recklessly in Mission Viejo, according to Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Todd Hylton.
Just before 8 p.m., a shooting was reported behind a business at Marguerite Parkway and La Paz Road in Mission Viejo, he said. The suspect’s pickup matched the description of the earlier vehicle.
Paramedics took the woman to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Hylton said. Her relationship with the suspect was not known.
The suspect abandoned the pickup near the shooting scene and was arrested a short time later, Hylton said.
His name and booking information were not immediately available.
