A man who was shot to death at a residence in an unincorporated area between Carson and Harbor Gateway was publicly identified Saturday.
John Barajas was 83 years old, according to the Office of the Medical Examiner.
Deputies were sent to the 1000 block of West 227th Street, between Vermont and Normandie avenues in West Carson, about 4:40 a.m. Friday on a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“When Carson (Station) deputies arrived on scene, they discovered the victim unresponsive inside the residence,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
“The victim’s grandson … in his 30s, was detained at the scene as a person of interest,” the sheriff’s department reported. The grandson’s name was not released and information about whether he was arrested was not available.
