A 40-year-old bicyclist who was killed when he was dragged under a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision in Valley Glen was identified Thursday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded at 11:40 p.m. Monday to a 911 call regarding a man down at Van Nuys Boulevard and Calvert Street. They determined a man was riding a bicycle south on Van Nuys when a motorist driving in the same direction struck the man and continued driving with the man wedged under the vehicle, police said.
Trino Lopez, who police said was homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the county medical examiner.
Witnesses at the scene told a videographer the victim was dragged beneath the vehicle until his body finally became dislodged.
The LAPD’s Valley Traffic division was handling the investigation, the LAPD spokeswoman said.
The driver has not been located or identified.
