Fire damaged a two-story, garden-style apartment building in Koreatown Friday, but no injuries were reported.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange, 50 firefighters responded to the 100 block of South Catalina Street around 4:50 p.m. Friday. Fire was seen emanating from a second-floor window, and heavy smoke was pouring from the building.

“Firefighters deployed hose lines inside the building, while crews ascended ladders to the roof to cut holes and release smoke and heat from the structure,” Prange said in a statement.

It took crews about 20 minutes to knock down the flames.

It was unclear what may have sparked the fire, and the cause was under investigation.
