A 45-year-old man who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Officers were sent to Pacific Coast Highway and Pasadena Avenue at about 11:50 p.m. Thursday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. He was later identified as Long Beach resident Juan Alvarez.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a Lexus sedan was driving west on Pacific Coast Highway and collided with a pedestrian crossing south across Pacific Coast Highway outside of a marked crosswalk,” an LBPD statement said.
“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” the police statement said. “Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.”
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective David Dougherty at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
