The driver of a big rig that authorities say was stolen was arrested Wednesday after a multi-freeway pursuit that ended in San Bernardino.
Officers from the El Monte Police Department initiated a pursuit of a big rig Wednesday morning near South El Monte and the Pomona (60) Freeway and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway interchange around 12:36 a.m. Wednesday. Police then contacted the California Highway Patrol, which took over the chase at the Foothill (210) Freeway and Sunflower Avenue in Glendora, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The pursuit continued on the 210 freeway, then switched to the San Bernardino (10) Freeway as the driver swerved across multiple lanes of the freeway before returning to the 210 Freeway, according to reports from the scene. The CHP attempted to deploy spike strips twice during the chase, but both attempts missed the big rig, authorities said.
The suspect was arrested in San Bernardino just before 3 a.m. Wednesday by CHP officers, Garcia said.
