Three youth housed at the Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Facility in Downey were taken to an outside hospital for medical evaluation and treatment related to a possible substance-related situation, facility authorities said Saturday.
The affected youth underwent routine medical observation and two have already returned to the institution, according to a Los Padrinos news release.
“The safety and well-being of all youth in our care remains our top priority. The department is committed to a thorough review and will take all necessary steps to prevent incidents of this nature in the future,” reads a statement from the juvenile facility.
Law enforcement officials, together with the Los Angeles County Probation Department, has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the possible substance-related matter, facility officials said.
