A man died from injuries suffered when he was struck by a car while riding an electric scooter in Long Beach.
The man died in a hospital Saturday and Long Beach police detectives were notified Wednesday, according to a Long Beach Police Department press release.
The crash occurred about 9:40 a.m. on April 29 in the 6500 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said.
The investigation revealed a 2019 Honda Accord driven by a 19-year-old Long Beach resident failed to stop for a red light while northbound on Atlantic toward Artesia Boulevard. The car collided with the man riding the scooter in a marked crosswalk, police said.
The Long Beach man on the scooter was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and died five days later. His name has not been publicly released.
The Accord driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Speed may have been a factor in the collision, police said.
It was unclear if the driver was expected to be arrested and/or charged with a crime.
Anyone who saw the collision was asked to call Long Beach police Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
