Two relatives were killed in a collision on the south end of Hemet that occurred as the victims were pulling out of a driveway, authorities said Monday.

Bailey Watterson, 17, of Riverside and Pastel Watterson, 25, of Redlands were fatally injured just after 9 p.m. Sunday at 1536 S. State St., less than a block south of Chambers Street, according to the Hemet Police Department.

The young women were in a compact Kia sedan and were leaving the residence when a northbound Toyota sedan approached at an unconfirmed speed, police said.

Pastel Watterson was at the wheel, while Bailey Watterson and another occupant, whose identity was not disclosed, were passengers.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the Toyota … collided with the Kia that was leaving the driveway,” according to a police statement.

Paramedics reached the location within minutes and pronounced Pastel dead at the scene. Bailey was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where she died less than an hour later.

The other Kia passenger remained in the hospital Monday, but the victim’s condition could not immediately be confirmed.

The Toyota driver, whose name wasn’t disclosed and who was alone in the car, was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital Monday morning.

“Impaired driving is not suspected at this point,” police said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-765-2400.
