The driver of an SUV that was being chased by Whittier police Wednesday morning was taken into custody following a collision on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway.
The crash was reported just after 10 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound freeway, a short distance north of Firestone Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol, which was called to assist Whittier police in the chase at 9:56 a.m., a CHP officer said.
A CHP vehicle was among several vehicles that sustained collision damage in the crash, but no injuries were immediately reported.
Information about the suspect and why officers were chasing the SUV was not immediately available.
Three southbound freeway lanes were closed as police conducted an investigation at the scene, and traffic was backed up to Whittier Boulevard.
