Two men from New York state have been arrested for allegedly binding two people inside their residence Sunday during a home invasion robbery in Redondo Beach.

Officers responded at 5:55 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person pointing a firearm at another person who was inside a vehicle, according to Lt. Vince Dileva of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The caller disconnected before providing a specific location, but officers were able to use departmental resources to trace the phone to the 1900 block of Mathews Avenue, Dileva said. While trying to determine the location of the reported incident, officers learned that two residents had been the victims of a home invasion robbery, he added.

“The suspects had fled the residence on foot just prior to officers’ arrival,” Dileva said. “Officers gave chase and were able to safely take the two suspects into custody without further incident.”

An investigation revealed that the victims had been bound by the suspects inside their home for “an extended period of time” prior to the suspects fleeing, Dileva said. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and one was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs. The victims’ names were being withheld.

“At this stage of the investigation, detectives do not believe there are additional outstanding suspects, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community,” police said.

The suspects were identified as Jesus Velez, 31, of Rochester, New York and Draven Luna, 21, of Queens. They were booked at the Redondo Beach jail on suspicion of numerous charges including robbery, burglary and kidnapping. Bail for each suspect was set at $100,000.
