An operation by the Carson Sheriff’s Station targeting a street takeover in Carson led to the arrests of 64 spectators and 25 vehicles being towed, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced Thursday.
There was also one arrest each for suspicion of DUI, reckless driving and possession of nitrous oxide along with a felony arrest warrant being served for suspicion of narcotics sales in the operation conducted Sunday at the street takeover at Avalon and Gardena boulevards, authorities said.
There were also two vehicles impounded for 30 days and eight traffic citations issued.
Sunday’s operation was the latest of a series of efforts by Carson Sheriff’s Station personnel have worked with city and state agencies to target street racing, street takeovers and illegal vehicle modifications, according to a statement from the department.
“Street takeovers are not entertainment; they are dangerous, criminal behavior,” Carson Sheriff’s Station Capt. Alise Norman said in a statement. “Our roads belong to the community, and we will hold individuals accountable for their actions.
“That includes not only the drivers, but also the spectators who enable and encourage these illegal activities that threaten the safety of our residents.”
The department encourages the public to report any street racing or takeover activity by calling their local sheriff’s station or dialing 911 in an emergency.
