A person was killed Thursday in a two-vehicle traffic collision in Lake Elsinore.
Deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded at approximately 11 a.m. near Via De La Valle and Plaza Valenza to reports regarding a major traffic collision, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The person who died was discovered lying on the ground with critical injuries upon the arrival of deputies. They administered first aid until paramedics responded and took over.
Despite continuous life-saving measures, the patient was pronounced dead at the scene. Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team detectives responded to the location to lead the investigation.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Via De La Valle moments before it collided with the rear of a parked car and struck a pedestrian.
The name of the person who died was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Sheriff’s officials said the driver of the vehicle that hit the parked car remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation Thursday evening. The area of Via De La Valle was temporarily closed as detectives worked to investigate the scene and collect evidence.
