Two 22-year-old men killed in a head-on collision in Acton were identified by county authorities Thursday.
Officers responded around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday to an area near Sierra Highway just south of Crown Valley Road after getting reports of a severe collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A black Infiniti Q50 driven by a man from Canyon Country was traveling on Sierra Highway moments before he lost control for reasons still under investigation, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a blue Honda Odyssey driven by a 57-year-old man identified as S. Hernandez-Trinidad of Santa Clarita.
The driver and front passenger of the Infiniti were pronounced dead at the scene, while a rear passenger, 22-year-old G. Gonzalez of Canyon County, was taken to a hospital for critical but unspecified injuries.
The driver who died in the crash was identified as Maximus Calzada and his front passenger as Pedro Gomez, 22, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Detectives determined after further investigation that Calzada and Gomez were not wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
Hernandez-Trinidad was also taken to a hospital for severe but undisclosed injuries.
Toxicology results are pending as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal collision was urged to call CHP Antelope Valley Area Officer D. Morales at 661-743-6060. Calls during non-business hours should be made to the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at 323-259-3200.
