A device resembling a grenade was found at a recycling center in Burbank Tuesday morning, prompting the evacuation of the property and a call to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad.

The device was found around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Burbank Recycling Center at 500 S. Flower St., near the Golden State (5) Freeway, according to Burbank police.

A report from the scene indicated the device was found on a conveyor belt at the center, which was evacuated following the discovery.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Arson-Explosives Detail arrived around 9 a.m. to determine the nature of the device, Burbank Police Department Lt. Brent Fekety said.

Police said there was no threat to the public, but people were nonetheless advised to avoid the area.
