A man was behind bars Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 66-year-old woman in the West Athens area near of South Los Angeles.
Tony Stacy, 67, was being held in lieu of $2 million bail on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
He was arrested in connection with the shooting that occurred just before 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 11800 block of South New Hampshire Avenue, west of Vermont Avenue and south of the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway.
According to the sheriff’s department, responding deputies found the victim, whose name has not been released, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Stacy was detained at the scene and later arrested, sheriff’s officials said.
There were no immediate information released about a possible motive for the shooting, or the relationship between Stacy and the victim.
