Firefighters searched for the better part of an hour for a dog believed stuck in a Santa Clarita sewer but gave up when they could not find the animal, authorities said Tuesday.

Someone called the Los Angeles County Fire Department at 7:15 a.m. Monday to report hearing a dog barking in a sewer in the 22000 block of Circle J Ranch Road, Capt. David Dantic told City News Service.

An Urban Search and Rescue team searched the storm drain for 100 feet in each direction but did not see a dog, Dantic said.

“Hopefully the dog got out on its own,” he said.

Dantic noted that no one ever saw a dog in the sewer so it is possible it wasn’t stuck in the sewer at all.
