A 33-year-old woman was in custody Wednesday for allegedly driving under the influence and colliding with another vehicle in Wildomar, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old woman and critical injuries to another person.

Deputies responded to a report of a major collision involving two-vehicles shortly after 9 p.m. Monday at Clinton Keith Road and Palomar Street, according to Sgt. Carlos Garciavilla of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

They found a woman in the roadway with significant injuries. Paramedics attempted live-saving measures but the woman, later identified by coroner’s officials as Debra Amicay of Murrieta, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of one of the vehicles was extricated and taken to a local hospital in critical condition, sheriff’s officials said.

The other driver, Erica Machuca of Hemet, was booked into Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury and murder, according to the sheriff’s department.

She was being held on $1 million bail.

The investigation was ongoing. Anyone with additional information on the collision was asked to call 951-245-3000.
