A man was mortally wounded Thursday in a shooting in a Lakewood intersection that is under investigation by sheriff’s homicide detectives.
The shooting occurred at 2:37 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Boulevard and South Street, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Arriving deputies found a gunshot victim next to a vehicle and were alerted to a suspect running away whom they were able to detain, sheriff’s officials said.
The victim was rushed to a hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.
Investigators learned both the suspect and victim were inside the vehicle arguing when the shooting occurred. They believe the two knew each other, officials said.
A firearm was recovered at the shooting scene, they said.
A news videographer who was at the scene told City News Service the victim and suspect were brothers.
